The Smart Cities MOOC is a course that explores the role of technology and data in cities, and teaches learners how to co-create a smart cities project in their city. It is hosted on FutureLearn and six presentations will run between 2015 and 2017. Our aim was to create a course which is citizen-centred and multidisciplinary, reflecting the diversity of perspectives that contribute to smart city development, and is targeted at an international audience. We are using data collected through the FutureLearn platform and pre/post course surveys to understand who our learners are, their motivations, demographics, how they use the course and their feedback on it. We are also exploring approaches to analyse the data to ascertain whether the key learning objectives for the course are being met.
