Nomenclature
We realise that it's important to develop a common nomenclature for things related to the new methodology and another one to refer to linguistic concepts. These are some of the key concepts:
METHODOLOGY
Initial dynamic assessment: Each student is interviewed individually during a 20-30 minute dynamic assessment session at the beginning of the course using some kind of stimulus (eg, a text written by them; a text they've read in advance; an audio or video news item...). The objective is to identify personal goals that are within the zone of proximal development of the learner to be achieved during the course.
Final dynamic assessment: At the end of the course, each student is interviewed individually during a 10-15 minute dynamic assessment session using their final exam as a stimulus to assess (a) whether the personal goals have been achieved and (b) new goals to continue learning English in the future.
LANGUAGE
Parts of speech: Each of the linguistic categories to which words belong (noun, verb, adjective, adverb, article, pronoun, conjunction)
Verb tenses: verb forms that refer to future, past and present actions. There are 12 in active voice and eight in passive voice.
Aspect: Verb forms that provide nuances regarding the time frame in which the action is completed (perfect; progressive; simple).
